Julie Estrada-Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Having started her career in healthcare as a Certified Medical Assistant in 2003, Julie pursued her career in nursing with a passion often unparalleled. She became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 2009, a Registered Nurse in 2013, and then earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. Eventually, having realized the profound importance mental health holds, she chose to specialize in psychiatry and sought her graduate training at the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston’s Cizik School of Nursing where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing with the focus of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
“Pursuing a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner degree felt so natural as my career and education evolved. I believe that my fortitude in the face of personal adversity, my genuine desire to help my patients live the fullest lives they can, and my knowing that I am no different from my patients sets me apart from many other providers; these qualities enable me to provide the kind of care that so many individuals need, yet do not even believe they deserve. I am committed to providing professional, compassionate, patient-centered, and evidence-based care for my patients.”
Most important to Julie is her desire to focus her attention on reducing mental health disparities for underserved populations across the lifespan, with an emphasis on child advocacy, LGBTQIA persons, and those who suffer from the devastating effects of substance misuse. With experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, Julie knows the importance of individualized, case by case care.
